Also the real thing

In October 2013 the indian director Zuleikha Chaudhari and the Swiss director Boris Nikitin have announced a call for an audition for a theatre project with the title "Also the real thing". More than a hundred actors from the professional and semi-professional theatre -and film scene responded and auditioned. The actors were asked to give a short documentary selfprotrait, to tell why they would like to participate in the project "Also the real thing" and to perform an excerpt of a role out of their repertoire.

The six selected actors show their auditions in an ongoing five-hours-loop in the room installation "Also the real thing". A work on representation, repetion, reality and fiction.

The second part of the installation is shown at a library: a book, an audio and two guards in a strange, timeless space. The book is the archive of the auditions. Live becomes text, text echoes performance.

"Also the real thing" is part of the exhibition "insert 2014" curated by Raqs Media Collective, including works by Rirkrit Tiravnaija, Kataryna Kozyra, Mai-Thu Perret, Hannah Hurtzig, Harun Farocki and many others.
