It’s the real thing 15 – Basel Documetary Platform is Switzerland’s festival for the documentary performing arts. Located in the city of Basel it takes place for the second time and is going assemble a group of internationally prominent artists and theoreticians.
The festival’s main location is the Kaserne Basel, Switzerland’s biggest centre for the contemporary performing arts. Other locations will be the Theater Roxy Birsfelden, the Museum of History Basel, Theatre Basel and the public space.

With its focus on the documentary theatre, dance and performance «It’s the real thing» is unique in the landscape of European festivals.

It’s the real thing 15 – Basel Documetary Platform
will take place from the 15th – 19th April 2015. It will focus on the documentary as a form of publication, self-publication, self-exhibition and as an act of political participation: The ones who speak share with the others. The ones who speak advertise for a specific awareness of our reality.

The festival will again invite artists whose projects are on the one hand of an important significance within the international performing arts in the last years and on the other hand deal with today’s reality’s representation in an exceptional artistic way.
The programme includes artists like Marta Gornicka, Gintersdorfer/Klassen, Tim Etchells, Samuel Koch, Rabih Mroué, Kim Noble and the filmmaker Joshua Oppenheimer, whose latest film has just been awarded with the main critics award at the Venice film festival.

A highlight of the festival will be the opening of the «Museum of Broken Relationships», a touring exhibition from Zagreb and 2011’s winner of the Kenneth-Hudson-Award as Europe’s most innovative museum.
