Seven young people embark on a trip into the night. They belong to Generation Z, born in the mid-noughties, into a world of economic crises, reigniting wars, propagandistic vanities, the break-up of seemingly self-evident things, new alliances and heated tempers that - fuelled by breathless digital communication - can no longer agree on what is real and what is not.
These young people are said to be indecisive, latently depressed, anxious and overly sensitive to everything that comes at them from the outside. It's the biggest misunderstanding of all time. They have plans for that evening. They are embarking on a journey through the streets and squares of their city, through a history that has shaped this place for centuries. They are curious, sad, angry, vulnerable. But they do not hide their vulnerability. They make it their weapon.
Director and author Boris Nikitin has developed a special evening together with actors from the successful production ‘Romeo & Juliet’ and ensemble member Claudia Nimako: a live film that will be shown on a large screen in the Schauspielhaus of the States theater.
A visual work unfolds before the audience's eyes, playfully oscillating between the elegance of a nouvelle vague film and the obsessive cries of longing of Xavier Dolan. The result is an odyssey through time, an intoxicating portrait of a generation.
‘Mixtape’ is based on a concept by Boris Nikitin and the collaboration with Sebastian Nübling.
